Available today, The Connected Home is a concept in which residents are able to utilize multiple home network devices by simply connecting them into a home network. Ultimately the goal is to allow homeowners access to the triple services of voice, video and data from anywhere in the home. There have been over 100 million home network products sold to date. This number is expected to grow to over 150 million by the end of 2008.

Currently the majority of home network devices are connected using wireless. Although wireless works well in basic implementations, it does suffer from inadequate coverage, inconsistent performance and the inability to support latency sensitive applications such as voice and video. For these reasons wireless alone is proving not to be a total solution for the connected home.

RNI addresses the concerns of wireless only networks with a combination wired / wireless solution. RNI is a network that allows the homeowner the ability to connect any device, anywhere and it allows access to and from that device even from outside the home. Capable of up to 1-gigabit of throughput RNI is the fastest home network available. It has the ability to support all in house network usage simultaneously. In addition it utilizes industry standard TCP-IP/Ethernet technology making it capable of supporting ninety percent of today’s network products.

With the combination of both wired and wireless technologies, RNI is a complete network solution. Yet, it is inexpensive and thus affordable to the average new home buyer. It is based primarily on industry leading Linksys products. Linksys is a division of Cisco Systems, Inc. Cisco is by far the industry leader in networking, internetworking and internet business solutions. Linksys itself is the recognized global leader in VoIP, Wireless and Ethernet Networking for the home.

Total Home Network’s (THN), “Residential Network Infrastructure” does for home networking usage what electrical wiring did for home appliance usage. With common electrical wiring throughout the home, homeowners are able to pick and choose where and how to use appliances. RNI provides a professionally installed common data medium that allows the homeowner to choose what home networking products to utilize and where to utilize them. Since the RNI is both a wired and wireless solution, the homeowner has the option of implementing both types of network products.

Linksys and Cisco are registered trade names of Cisco Systems, Inc.

There are many advantages to the home builder for providing RNI to the new home
buyer, including:

  • Enhanced (Renewed) Product Interest
  • Increased Marketability
  • Product Separation
  • Technological Innovation
  • Additional Product Revenue

RNI requires a dedicated cat5-6 cable run to each networked room. A dual RJ11 / RJ45 or stand alone RJ45 wall jack is required in each networked room as well. In addition RNI needs a place to be mounted (garage, basement) wherever the Cat5-6 will be terminated. THN provides all other installation and configuration. THN also provides for all post sales support.
